Lubbock has a broad-based economy with strong manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, services, and government sectors. The retail and wholesale trade sector represents 17.4% of Lubbock’s wage base. Other business sectors are: Education and Health Services sector 14.3%; Professional and Business Services, 7.6%; Leisure and Hospitality 11.5%; and the government sector, 22.8%.
Major employers include Texas Tech University, Covenant Health System, Lubbock ISD, University Medical Center, United Supermarkets, City of Lubbock, TTU Health Sciences Center, Cingular, and Convergys.
