Lubbock Real Estate
Located in northwest Texas, Lubbock is considered to be at the center of the South Plains. This is the area between the Permian Basin to the south and the Texas Panhandle to the north. Formed in the late 1890s and named after the former Texas Ranger, Thomas S. Lubbock, the town was officially incorporated in 1909. Today, it is the 10th-largest city in Texas.
The 2000 Census indicated that there were 199,564 people residing in the city. According to an estimate by the U.S. Census in 2005, the city population was 209,737. It has a projected annual growth rate of 0.6%. The racial makeup of the city was 72.87% White, 8.66% African American, 0.56% Native American, 1.54% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 14.32% from other races, and 2.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 27.45% of the population.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,844, and the median income for a family was $41,418. The per capita income for the city was $17,511.
